Attorneys Recognized With Super Lawyers Award as Rising Stars

We are proud to announce that two of our attorneys have been recognized as Rising Stars by Super Lawyers for 2017. Sarah Wittrock was peer selected to Rising Stars for the first time this year.  Stephanie Jones was selected to Rising Stars in 2010, 2011, 2012, and now again for 2017.

The selection process for the Rising Stars list is the same as the Super Lawyers selection process, with one exception: to be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less.

Every year, Super Lawyers® selects attorneys from over 70 practice areas and all firm sizes through the United States. The final published list represents no more than 5 percent of lawyers in the state. Lawyers are formally nominated by peers or may be entered into the pool of candidates by the research department during the research process.

Lawyers may nominate attorneys in their own firm, but only count if each in-firm nomination is matched by at least one out-firm nomination. Each candidate is evaluated on 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement. Selections are made on an annual, state-by-state basis.

An attorney led research staff also searches for attorneys who have attained certain honors, awards, results, credentials and distinctions which indicate a high degree of peer recognition or professional competence. Attorneys may also be added to the pool of candidates, with no points awarded, for evaluation by readers, clients, marketing directors and attorneys who are not eligible for formal nomination.

The independent research department at Super Lawyers® evaluates each lawyer based on 12 indicators. Some indicators may have a higher maximum point value than others.

  • Verdicts/Settlements
  • Transactions
  • Representative Clients
  • Experience
  • Honors/Awards
  • Special licenses/certifications
  • Position within the law firm
  • Bar and/or professional activity
  • Pro bono and community service
  • Scholarly lectures/writings
  • Education/employment background
  • Other outstanding achievements

Step three of the selection process is a peer evaluation by practice area, also known as the “blue ribbon review”.
